My Favourite Food Ideas For Easter

Easter day in the UK, like Christmas day, is also an occasion for a family to gather together and share some special meal. So, what food ideas for Easter can inspire us to cook for family and friends.

I like to go to www.bbc.co.uk/food when I look for inspiring food ideas recipes.

Easter associates with Hot Cross Buns — reach and spiced tea cakes. Traditionally, they are served on Good Friday, however   supermarkets start sell the variety of Hot Cross Buns long before that day. You can buy or bake your own buns-it is your choice.  I don’t like to spend much time in the kitchen, so I’ve found quick, less than 30 minutes recipe Hot Cross Buns by Simon Rimmer here.

Easter Day breakfast starts with eggs, usually boiled but you can make it more sophisticated with asparagus soldiers or treat your family with spicy Tiffin Eggs . In my family we like to make stuffed eggs- hard boiled egg yolks mix with mayo, canned salmon and fill the egg whites with the mixture. Yammy!

Easter Day main meal is traditionally roasted meat. The favourite meal is roasted lamb served with mint sauce and vegetables. Instead of lamb you can roast pork with cracklings or make Baked Easter Ham by Martha Stewart. Salmon is a good alternative to meat.

The traditional Easter pudding is Simnel cake, reach fruit cake with a flat layer of marzipan on top and decorated with 11 marzipan balls representing the 12 apostles minus Judas, who betrayed Christ.    Try Simple Simnel cake recipe by Mary Barry.
